Print Ad- ChildFund

Questions to consider upon analysing the print Ad

  1. What does the ad reveal about the cultural/ social/ or historical context of its production.
  2. According to the ad, what values or characteristics are the most important?
  3. Who is empowered in this commercial? Who is ignored or marginalized? For what reason?

The ad  (published by Child Fund International) demonstrates an image of a young girl who is enjoying her brand new bicycle as she is riding towards her future, and this reveals the cultural, historical and social contexts. The ad is clearly promoting the opportunity this little girl has due to the investment of donation with the bike which allows “Her future to begin with two wheels” The historical context about the advertisement  shows, as it is being taken in India, a country that is historically known and has associated it self with the lack of opportunity presented to young women for educational needs. However, this ad also tries to convey the need for other countries or even people who have the finical  capability to donate to the Child Fund International and their sponsors which are the Dream Bike Programs. As well as discussing the social issues that this shines a spotlight on , and the level of expectations  that privileged individuals have to be able to aid the finical support for a certain necessity such as the education of a young women.

The ad shares and demonstrates that the value of on educational need, and that with the help of more “financially ” equipped countries or individuals within the country it could be beneficial to the children in India which may be looked at as a bias approach as well. Once the Ad was released it painted and portrayed all children within this region requires a donation.

The ad empowers young women to go and gain knowledge, and this is significant as mentioned in the previous paragraphs that the context that the ad was taken in (India) is known to be less convincing when it comes to the education of women.

  1. I definitely agree Basel that the main focus that is indirectly presented in this print advertisement is financially related since India is not financially stable, and the people donating would be financially stable, and therefore able to support the Dream Bike Program. More so, through the use of education as a source of empowerment, these two wheels are supplying young girls that are restricted from such rights, to have safe access to an education. Well done!
